Sowing instructions:

Before you dive into the world of juicy melons, it's important to know the right steps for sowing. Start by choosing a sunny location for your melon plants. Cucumis melo loves to thrive in warm, sunny areas. Make sure the soil is well-drained and provides adequate drainage to avoid waterlogging.

Sow your melon seeds directly into the soil or in pots, depending on your space and preferences. Place the seeds about 2-3 centimeters deep and keep a distance of about 60-90 centimeters between the individual plants to ensure enough space for them to grow.

Tips and tricks:

To promote the growth of your melons and achieve a rich harvest, follow a few important tips and tricks:

  1. Regular watering: Melons need constant moisture, especially during the hot summer months. Make sure you water your plants regularly to prevent the soil from drying out.
  2. Support for climbing varieties: Some varieties of Cucumis melo can climb. Provide these plants with a supporting structure such as a trellis or espalier so that they can develop without taking over the ground.
  3. Fruit supports: As soon as the fruits form, you can support them with netting or cloth bags to prevent them from touching the ground. This protects the fruit from rotting and gives it a uniform shape.
  4. Regular removal of weeds: Keep the bed around your melon plants free of weeds to avoid competition for nutrients and water.

Worth knowing:

Cucumis melo, commonly known as melon, is a member of the gourd family and includes a number of varieties, including cantaloupe, honeydew melon and watermelon. Originally from the Middle East, melons are now grown all over the world and are known for their sweet taste and juicy texture.

Melons are not only delicious, but also rich in important nutrients such as vitamin C, vitamin A and potassium. Their high water content makes them a refreshing choice, especially on hot summer days.

From their bright green skin to their juicy interior, melons are a feast for the senses. Enjoy them freshly sliced as a refreshing snack, mix them into salads or make delicious smoothies.

With a little attention and care, you can harvest your own juicy melons straight from your garden and enrich the summer with their sweet taste.
