What is gibberillic acid (GA3)?

Gibberellic acid (GA) is a plant hormone that is produced by the plants themselves or can also be produced artificially. It is used to treat seeds that are particularly difficult to germinate or to remove their germination block. Similarly, GA is used for seeds that need to be stratified (mimicking the cold period/winter) before successful germination by storing the seeds in the refrigerator for 4-6 weeks. In general, gibberellic acid is used to increase the germination of plant seeds or to promote their subsequent growth.

How is GA3 used?

You will receive our GA3 in crystalline powder form. As GA3 is not soluble in water, or only with difficulty, it must be dissolved in a few ml of high-proof alcohol (spirit, isopropanol or similar) before it is mixed with water.

A common solution would be, for example, to dissolve 1g of GA3 90% in a few ml of alcohol and then add this mixture to 1 liter of water. The water temperature should be below 30 degrees Celsius, otherwise the quality of the GA3 could be impaired.

Once you have used your GA3 powder and mixed it with water (and alcohol), it will quickly lose its effectiveness at room temperature. You can use it for up to 3 days unless you store it in the fridge or freeze it, which will prolong its effectiveness considerably. You can of course also make a smaller amount of solution, which will make your GA3 last longer.

Once your GA3 solution is ready, you can simply add your seeds and leave them to soak for 24 hours before sowing them.

GA3 should ideally be stored in a cool, dry place away from light.
