If you’re a still newbie, growing kratom is actually not that difficult to grow if you ask me. All it takes is a simple indoor greenhouse (or a plastic box), some pots, regular potting soil and some basic plant lamps. Humidifier are pretty cool but not really necessary. Of course you can grow kratom on a window sill but I personally always recommend to grow kratom under controlled conditions to get the best results. A heat mat is also a good investment but it’s not really necessary either. Usually plant lamps produce some warmth that will support the germination process of the seeds.

Once you get your kratom seeds, you should know what the actual seeds look like and what’s only the seed capsule. I just took some pictures today to show you what I mean. We’re getting our seeds in whole drief fruits, that contain several seed capsules in which the actual seeds are waiting to be planted :). We noticed that the seeds will stay viable much longer if we keep them in the seed capsules until we plant them.

If you’re getting the whole fruit, you will at first have to separate the single seed capsules from the whole fruit befe you want to plant the seeds!

Once you have separated the single seed capsules, you will very likely see something like this:

You just take the seed capsules and squeeze it gently ON TOP your (already wet) potting soil!

DON’T cover the seeds with soil! The seeds are super tiny (around 3–5mm) and need light and water to germinate!

So, just take each seed capsule and squeeze it – each seed capsule usually contains 20-50 single seeds! If the seed capsule is empty, it usually means that the flower hasn’t been pollinated.

If you’re done with squeezing out the seed capsules, you will end up with a lot of seeds usually.

Some things to keep in mind when growing Kratom plants:

– The seeds/seedlings/plant prefer a humid/moist/warm environment (especially during the gremination process)- High humidity will support healthy and fast growth

– It usually takes about 2-4 weeks for the seeds to germinate. If not, maybe your growing environment needs some correction.

– Topping/Training Kratom plants works really well

– Don’t repot your kratom seedlings too early (we usually wait until they are 3-5cm in height)- Kratom likes „wet feet“, so keep your plants more on the „wet side“

– Spider mites LOVE kratom plants, so keep an eye on that

– Kratom plants need bigger pots and good nutrients/compost for healthy/fast growth

– Kratom plants can change the color(s) of their (leaves) veins depending on enviromental factors (especially temperature and substrate) – so, don’t wonder why your actual „red vein“ turns into a „green vein“ at some point

– Many growers fail to grow kratom just because they let the seeds dry out or they cannot provide the few basic grow accessories. (simple grow lamps/indoor greenhouse).

– Kratom can even be grown in the middle of Europe from (depending on where you live of course 😉 ) April until October. We’re growing our plants in greenhouses to keep them in a humid/warm environment. They also grow without a greenhouse, but much slower and they don’t like direct sunlight (especially when they are still young).

– One of the biggest Myths around Kratom: The seeds die within a couple of days. Absolutely wrong! The seeds stay viable for at least 6 months without any problem! We’re growing plants from seeds that were 1 year plus old! The germination rate will be quite low, but some seeds will still germinate!

I guess that’s some of the important facts around growing Mitragyna species, but I’m pretty sure that I have forgotten some important ones ;). If so, just let me know. I hope that at least the pictures a little bit if you want to grow your own kratom plants.

By the way – we’re using the same method for all different Mitragyna species and it works really well.
