What is naphthylacetic acid?

1-Naphthylacetic acid has the same effect as the natural auxin indole-3-acetic acid (IES), to which it is structurally related. Among other things, it is used in the vegetative propagation of plants, where it is the main component of various rooting aids for propagating cuttings.

One of the main uses of naphthylacetic acid is to support fruit growth, in particular to increase flowering, ripening and fruit quality. NAA can help to increase fruit yield and reduce the rate at which fruit falls from trees. NAA can also reduce the amount of seeds in fruit and in some cases even produce seedless fruit.

In fruit growing, NAA can be used in high concentrations (1000 ppm) to control root shoots and water shoots. In low concentrations (10-20 ppm), NAA is used for chemical thinning when applied during flowering up to 14 days later or against premature fruit drop 2-4 weeks before harvest. (Source: wikipedia)
