Sowing instructions

Growing Urtica urens, also known as small nettle, is uncomplicated and rewarding. Start sowing in spring when the risk of frost has passed. Prepare the soil by loosening it well and enriching it with compost. Sprinkle the seeds evenly over the surface and cover them lightly with soil. Keep the soil moist at all times, but not too wet. The first seedlings should appear within 10 to 14 days. Make sure to leave enough space between the plants so that they can develop well.

Tips and tricks

To ensure that your Urtica urens grows optimally, choose a sunny to semi-shady location. The small stinging nettle prefers nutrient-rich and moist soil. To control the spread, you can cultivate the plants in pots or separate beds. Regular watering, especially during dry periods, is important to ensure healthy growth. Avoid overwatering as this can damage the roots. Harvesting the leaves is best done with gloves to avoid the stinging hairs. The leaves are at their tastiest when young and tender.
