Boswellia frereanaalso known as Maydi incense, is considered by connoisseurs to be one of the finest and most precious types of frankincense in the world. In contrast to the better-known Boswellia species from Oman or Ethiopia, this frankincense comes exclusively from Somalia and has been extracted there in the traditional way for centuries.
Characteristic of Boswellia frereana is its Particularly light, slightly golden resin tone and his extraordinary Soft, balsamic and slightly lemony-fresh fragrance. Compared to other types of incense, it is significantly milder, less pungent and has an almost creamy fragrance structure with warm, resinous and slightly sweet notes.
Fragrance profile & effect when smoking
- soft, warm, balsamic

When smoked, Maydi frankincense unfolds a Clear, calming and at the same time uplifting atmosphere. It is traditionally used for meditation, prayer, rituals, purification ceremonies and for spiritual work involving clarity, inner peace, heart opening and centering.
Use
Boswellia frereana is ideal for:
- Classic smoking on charcoal or sieve
- Spiritual rituals and meditation
- energetic space clearing
- Fragrance journeys and mindful relaxation rituals
Due to its mildness, it is also ideal for people who are sensitive to more intense resins or are just starting to smoke.
Worth knowing 📖
Maydi incense has been highly valued by the nomadic peoples of Somalia for centuries. Unlike many other types of incense, Boswellia frereana was historically used less for temple rituals and more in everyday life: to cleanse living spaces, to scent clothing and hair, to accompany rites of passage (birth, marriage, death) and for spiritual centering.
Due to its fine fragrance, Maydi frankincense was even used as a natural perfume substitute in the past - pieces of resin were worn in robes or placed in water to lightly aromatize it. Even today, it is considered one of the most valuable incense raw materials in natural perfumery.
