Sowing instructions

Would you like to grow the deep purple Daucus carota "Morada" carrots? Then start in spring as soon as the soil is frost-free. Sow the seeds directly in the open ground, about 1-2 cm deep and 5 cm apart. The rows should be about 30 cm apart. Keep the soil evenly moist so that germination, which takes around 10-20 days, is successful. Make sure that the soil is well-drained and rich in nutrients.

Harvest, use & storage

You can harvest your Morada carrots after around 70-90 days. The purple carrots are not only a real eye-catcher, they also have a special taste - sweet and aromatic. They are perfect for salads, juices or as a colorful side dish. For storage, remove the leaves and keep the carrots in a cool, dark place. This will keep them fresh for several weeks.

Tips & Tricks

For best results, sow the seeds in loose, stone-free soil. Fertilize regularly with compost or organic fertilizer to ensure the nutrient supply. However, avoid excessive watering as this can impair root development. Mulching the soil helps to retain moisture and keep out weeds. For a continuous harvest, sow the seeds at two-week intervals.

The Morada carrot is an old variety from Spain that is characterized by its intense purple color. It owes this color to its high anthocyanin content, which has an antioxidant effect and is good for your health. The variety is also relatively resistant to pests and diseases, which makes it ideal for organic cultivation.
