Sowing instructions

  1. Choose the right location: Sideritis prefers a sunny to semi-shady location with well-drained soil. Make sure the location is protected from strong winds and offers enough space, as the plant can develop into a bushy shrub.
  2. Soil preparation: Loosen the soil thoroughly and remove weeds and large stones. Sideritis thrives best in a sandy or loamy soil with good drainage. Add organic matter if necessary to improve the soil structure.
  3. Seed procurement: Get high-quality Sideritis seeds from a trustworthy source. Make sure to choose fresh seeds to ensure good germination.
  4. Sowing time: The best times for sowing Sideritis seeds are in spring or fall, when the soil temperatures are warm enough. Sow the seeds about 0.5 to 1 centimeter deep in the prepared soil and keep it evenly moist.
  5. Germination and care: Sideritis seeds can take several weeks to germinate. Keep the seedlings moist and protect them from strong sunlight. As soon as the seedlings become stronger, you can carefully transplant them to provide enough space for them to grow.

Tips and tricks

  • Regular watering: Sideritis plants need regular watering during the growing season to stay healthy. Make sure to keep the soil evenly moist, but avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot.
  • Mulching: Mulch the soil around the Sideritis plants with organic materials such as straw or compost to retain moisture, suppress weed growth and improve soil structure.
  • Special care during the flowering period: Sideritis produces attractive flowers in a variety of colors that attract bees and other pollinators. Regularly remove faded flowers to encourage the formation of new ones, promoting plant health and growth.
