The black mulberry tree (Morus nigra) is an impressive, long-lived plant with sweet, dark fruits. With its seeds, you can grow your own mulberry tree and enjoy the delicious berries as well as the decorative appearance of the tree.
Sowing instructions
The seeds of Morus nigra require a cold period for germination (stratification). Follow these steps for successful cultivation:
- Preparation: Soak the seeds in lukewarm water for 24 hours.
- Stratification: Mix the seeds with moist sand and store them in the refrigerator at around 4°C for 4-6 weeks.
- Sowing: Sow the seeds in well-drained potting compost, approx. 0.5 cm deep.
- Location: Place the propagator in a bright, warm place (approx. 20-25°C).
- Humidity: Keep the soil constantly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
- Germination: The germination period can be 4-8 weeks. Patience is required!

A full-grown Morus nigra-After a few years, this tree bears delicious, deep black fruit. They have a sweet and sour taste and can be used in a variety of ways:
- Enjoy fresh: They taste best straight from the tree.
- Jams & juices: Ideal for making jams and drinks.
